Is this radical? Is radical bad?

Martin Kennedy - Friday, September 08, 2017

What if everyone were guaranteed a job?  Would that be good for the economy?  To conservative / limited government types, I'd suggest not dismissing such a proposal too quickly.  Could it come, I ask, with some caveats?  First, there has to be the possibility of being terminated.  The incentive to perform, to show up and do something, is important.  Otherwise, we'd be better off letting people watch day time television.  Second, suppose that if such a program emerged we could get rid of the Minimum Wage and Unemployment Insurance?  Wouldn't that make labor markets more efficient?

A lot of folks will dismiss such a proposal out of hand.  They shouldn't.  Is it so very different from a Universal Basic Income?
