Confirmation Plan B and Shades of Bigotry

Martin Kennedy - Wednesday, September 26, 2018

The next man up might be Amy Coney Barrett, a devout Catholic.  The 46-year-old professor at Notre Dame Law is the mother of seven.  In a confirmation hearing for the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals, ranking member Dianne Feinstein lectured her… "The dogma lives loudly within you, and that's of concern."

Sen. Dick Durbin asked her is she was an ‘orthodox’ Catholic.

The Eastern Orthodox Church (officially known as the Orthodox Catholic Church) emerged as the result of the great East-West Schism (Constantinople vs. Rome) of 1054 AD.

Sen. Durbin wasn't asking a sincere question.  Neither was he confused.  Small 'o' orthodox refers to believing and practicing that which is consistent with your religion or organization.

TPM: Senate Democrats might be advised to practice restraint.  The bishops, who seem at times intent on undermining the Church from within, should be given more time.  And, there might be an electoral consequence.
